One of my highlight experiences of my trip so far, hiking Yakushima. This southern island is the inspiration for Princess Mononoke. I saw the oldest cedar tree in existence, 10,000 years old and definitely a god. Lots of waterfalls. We at the most outstanding local sushi, local venison, and grilled fish. Hot springs and car camping. Just a packed and outstanding day. Please read and enjoy the pictures!
Sorry I haven’t posted in a month! A few obstacles made it functionally impossible [Surface Charger broke and I needed a new one] Please enjoy this piece about my friends in Tsukuba and my friend in Maebashi!

[Also sorry the delay in post. Pai has got me badly. Will be updating again in the coming days.]
Shout out to the Canadians who made Sapporo and Tokyo wonderful adventures. Kiah, Kail, Maddie! Thank you! A reflection on some of Tokyo and the chaotic thing I call life now.

Peter and I went head to head for cooking skills. We competed for title of head and sous chef. Two plates each, app and entree, three judges, hour and a half time limit. I narrowly won 102-98.
I worked to put my thoughts on paper after hearing about Anthony Bourdain’s suicide. First notification on my phone that morning. Really tough. I tried to explain who a total stranger was to me and why that matters and what next. Featured Reading at Another Open Mic, June 28, 2018
Life hasn't been exactly sunshine and dandelions since January, but I've had an outstanding 2018 so far. Yet, somehow I've been thinking about how the uncomfortable moments are an important part of the growth. It's a stance of privilege, and it's only in a space that I can be safe and secure, but it's exactly that space of unknowing that I want to cultivate.
I try a second stretch of vegetarianism. It's mostly to try reducing my total environmental impact as well as lower a total lifetime consumption of meat. I explain my thought process, my execution, and how the practice has altered my regular diet.
