Ivory
Bit by bit the stoneface crumbles
time and weather, rough and rumble
won’t the rock just wish it humble
Words like floss, and my teeth all bared,
call it wisdom but that won’t fare
though the words are engraved with care
Not carving truth in ivory
exhibitionists diary
drips with self-loathing irony
Pen to paper, chisel to stone
demands harsh edits, wick to bone
regret won’t be carved on my tomb
Drink too much to slay my demons
Come morning they’re tried for treason
All will stay for extra seasons
Plaster cast them to the abyss
seductive alabaster lips
what comes out my mouth looks like piss
Brush off the excesses, waste and dust
Reveal true self on marble bust
gaze upon on yourself and find trust
